AIAV// 72//4th ave. - Fingered.

WIP - 72// #2 Fingered
NOW WORKING ON: 72//4th AVE 'Fingered' 18.-23.Jan 2010 Artinavan// open the second installation in the Brixton Village Market at 72//4th ave. The installation explores themes that directly discover the market itself and surrounding area. Playing with the idea of sign language the installation will take on sculptural qualities of assembled individual 'objects' to convert the room into an interactive space. The group have worked with banal found objects converting them into personalized signs that capture and explore elements of the market while consciously considering the aesthetic value especially the vibrant colour that truly captures the market. The work also explores the groups personal reflection and experience of converting an empty traditional market shop into an art installation space and a direct reaction to their personal involvement in the area. The exhibition explores the ideas of curation, with the public invited to create their own mark, inspired by their experience of the installation and market and are then asked to install it into the 'FINGERED' installation.

72//#1 Upside down Farhad
Artinavan// collective have converted an empty shop in a 1930's indoor Brixton Village Market into a weekly rotating installation space. The shop 72 // 4TH AVE. will be displaying contemporary works from the Artinavan// collective as group installations, individual shows, collaborations with emerging and local artists / curators in the south London area and also visiting artists spaces. The not-for-profit project will be running for 8 weeks (Jan. - Mar. 2010) , with our first rotation being 'UPSIDE DOWN FARHAD' - converting 72 // 4TH AVE. into a camera obscura, projecting and capturing the situation of the shop and exploring the relationship to the market. (open 11am - 5pm Mon - Sat) The rotating installation space will provide opportunities for the group and collaborating artists to explore the possibilities of the area while delivering contemporary art in an accessible non conventional gallery setting, allowing regular interior and exterior installation possibilities, performances, film screenings, artist workshops, poetry events and musical performances. The project with support from spacemakers.org intends to regenerate the market and the surrounding area, in regards to using a derelict empty shop with connotations of community interaction and interest through the means of free art events.
The Artinavan// collective are currently seeking donations and sponsorship opportunities to fund the running of the space and future projects. If you would like to be involved, or to find out more, please email us. Spacemakers about the installation: "Slow down and experience the magic of the Camera Obscura, until it starts to spin your head! As your eyes adjust to the dark, the market emerges upside down on the screen. The effect is utterly mesmerising."

pop up space

this is a project i worked on in a collaboration between artinavan// and Danish group Bureau Detours. we convert an unused car park at Camberwell College of arts into an interactive structural installation. it was called the pop up space and last one week. it was constructed from found objects in the surrounding area with the intention to convert the connotations connected with the discarded objects into interactive and attractive space.
